Booze Cruises and Driving Abroad
Author: Laura Hartson
A lot of Brits make the trip to Calais in the summer months on a ‘booze cruise' where they can stock up on alcohol for far cheaper than in the UK. This seems like a great idea, but remember that there are some car requirements you will have to follow.
Five cases of wine, for example, is the equivalent of another adult passenger, so think about the quantities that you are purchasing and the effect it will have on your vehicle. Make sure that your car has been serviced as the additional weight will cause any problems to worsen.
If you have an old car that doesn't have a wing mirror on one side, then it is a good idea to get one, as they drive on the other side of the road so your driving will be impaired without the use of one.
If you are heading off on this sort of trip in the winter months then think about getting some chains for your wheels. In some countries in Europe the weather is a great deal colder, and it is recommended, if not a legality, to have these fitted on your vehicle. Make sure you provide your cars make and model as they are made specifically for your model of vehicle and won't fit properly otherwise.
If you are planning on taking a trip to Europe, make sure that your Car Insurance covers you for travelling abroad, as some polices wont, or you will have to add the details on and pay an extra premium for a short amount of time.
